ARE YOU THINKING OF CHANGING YOUR ACCOUNTANT?
If you are considering changing your accountant, then there are a number of points to consider. Can your existing provider say yes to all the following:
DO THEY MEET YOUR EXPECTATIONS
- Are they supplying you with all the information you need to keep you in control of your business.
- Do they understand your business and your needs, and are they prepared to work with you throughout the year, not just for year-end accounts?
- Do they keep you compliant with all relevant laws and obligations re tax and VAT, plus numerous other legal requirements?
- Is everything filed on-time, or early if it benefits you?
- Do they do all they can to minimise your tax bill whilst remaining within the guidelines set by HM Revenue & Customs.
- Have they structured your business (eg limited companies/sole trader/partnerships) in the most tax efficient manner?
- Are they pro-active, making suggestions and prompting you to consider alternative structures and VAT schemes to reduce your liability?
DO THEY OFFER A COMPLETE SERVICE
- Is the information they give you completely up-to-date and correct so you can make the right decisions?
- Do they have an in-house Tax Team providing current specialist information?
- Do they have access to specialists re complex VAT and legal matters, within the agreed fee?
- Do they offer a complete service, including personal tax, company secretarial and payroll services?
- Do they have a website with current tax and accounting news?
FEES AND AVAILABILITY
- Do they answer all your questions promptly, visit you if necessary, and provide you with a quote before doing any unplanned work?
- Do they do what you require, and tell you if it is more economical for you to do some of the work yourself?
- Do they work with you, aiming to answer all your questions promptly and accurately throughout the year?
- Do they work on a fixed fee basis in the vast majority of cases?
